At the moment we continue to live in a world of uncertainly, there are no arguments here, the future can not be predicted, not now.

When moments like the recent COVID outbreak occur it’s easy to lose focus and scramble around looking for quick fixes, we’ve all done this at some point, and it’s not a fault, it’s natural.

However, we have to come to terms that the speed at which we want to progress and move forward with our careers and lives has now altered. COVID has increased stress levels on everyone, it’s burnt into our existence, and the change of pace of work and life, as well as the uncertainty, has caused many of us to become more impatient with our careers.

Consider The Long-term Outcome

Being impatient can cause a series of unwanted complications and stresses of their own.

As either young, enthusiastic, or seasoned marketers we need to learn to be more patient, now more than ever. We need to consider the long-term outcomes of the decisions we make today in the current situation we find ourselves in at the back end of 2021.

Work to control what you can and let go of the things you can’t. Really good things take time to develop and build, rushing things doesn’t work long-term, you miss out on critical lessons and experiences that only taking your time and extended periods of development will give you. This is especially true with your career. If you rush into your career, applying for jobs that you’re just not qualified or experienced enough to execute, it can do you, your clients, and your future prospects damage. Critically, it can also leave you disillusioned.

Become Great at One Thing!

By not rushing, you’ll get a clearer picture of what to do now which will help you get to where you want to be in the future.

We get it, everyone wants to achieve and become successful in their own right, but you’re not going to get it by watching a few tutorial videos on YouTube, or a couple of months of practice, it takes years to master skills, to be comfortable with all the platforms, technology and systems we marketers are afforded. We recommend you build up your expertise, focus on the aspects of marketing you enjoy the most, explore the subject, deconstruct it, and learn its nuances. Master your subject, and you WILL become valuable.

Be honest with yourself, if you feel that deep down you need more experience, then get it. Having that experience will give you the confidence you need to take the next step and by working to get that experience, you will inevitably discover more opportunities along the way.

How Can You Work to Remain Patient?

  • Write down the things that make you impatient.

  • Write down your biggest goal.

  • Break down getting to your goal into smaller objectives.

  • Take more time out for yourself – don’t rush or you will burn out.
