The 10 Most Beautiful Places I've Been While Working Remotely
By Lead Kinetics23 November 2020

Three years ago, our own digital nomad quit his job, found a remote role, and booked a one-way ticket to Croatia. He hasn't stopped travelling since. Here, in his own countdown, are the ten most beautiful places remote work has taken him.
A remote, freelance career doesn't just fund travel, it makes moments like these part of the job itself, not something squeezed into two weeks of annual leave.
10. Jambiani Beach, Zanzibar
Tucked off the Tanzanian coast, Zanzibar had been on the list for years before finally visiting. The main island is largely poor, deeply traditional, and quietly striking in its own right, but nothing prepared him for Jambiani itself, where the ground gives way suddenly to brilliant white sand and impossibly clear water.
9. The Taj Mahal, India
A 5am queue in total darkness, shuffling forward alongside hundreds of other half-asleep travellers, hardly felt promising. Then the monument itself appeared through the gate, centuries of history arriving all at once, and the wait stopped mattering entirely.
8. Oia, Santorini, Greece
The ferry crossing from Athens alone was reason enough to believe in the remote-work lifestyle. An unexpected upgrade to a room with its own infinity pool overlooking the caldera didn't hurt either, and the sunsets that followed genuinely lived up to the island's reputation.
7. The Blue Mosque, Istanbul
Crossing by ferry from the European side to the Asian side of the Bosphorus, with Istanbul's skyline unfolding on both banks, is one of those journeys that's worth doing purely for the crossing itself. The Blue Mosque, centuries old and enormous, dominates the skyline from a distance and somehow feels even bigger up close.
6. Merzouga, Morocco
A night in the Sahara had been on the bucket list from the very start of the trip, and a winter tour out of Marrakesh, over the snow-covered Atlas Mountains and into dunes that rise for hundreds of metres, finally made it happen. Three kilometres into the desert on foot, the silence was almost physical, and the night sky was unlike anything visible from anywhere with real light pollution.
5. Ponte da Piedade, Lagos, Portugal
A first solo road trip along Portugal's Atlantic coast, taking in Lisbon, Porto and beyond, led eventually to Ponte da Piedade. The sandstone cliffs rising straight out of turquoise water feel almost unreal, and having the whole spot practically to himself in December made it feel even more like a genuine discovery.
4. Vik, Iceland
Iceland's southern coast in spring is harsh, unpredictable, and beautiful because of it, not despite it. Black volcanic sand against white Atlantic waves creates scenery that barely looks real, and nearby Diamond Beach, scattered with small, glinting icebergs, only adds to it.
3. Okavango Delta, Botswana
A first trip to the African continent, and a first game drive, delivered more than expected within minutes: a leopard resting with her cubs, a startled herd of antelope, and a bull elephant close enough to feel the ground shift. Watching hippos jostle for space in the shallows afterwards felt like a fitting way to close out the day.
2. Berg Lake, British Columbia, Canada
Before crossing the Atlantic to begin the trip properly, a detour through Banff and Jasper National Parks led to a demanding thirty-mile round trip hike to Berg Lake. Glaciers, untouched alpine wilderness and a lake so clear it barely looked real made every mile of the climb worth it.
1. The Masai Mara, Kenya
Some places carry meaning long before you ever visit them, and the Masai Mara had been exactly that since childhood, watching wildlife documentaries filmed on those exact plains. Staying at a fully sustainable camp on the Mara River, with wildlife passing right past the front step and the Masai people herding livestock through it all, made this the single most memorable stop of the entire journey, and the place his mind returns to most often. All made possible by working remotely.
